Which phone series A you should buy

Series of Galaxy A is the main Samsung’s middle class ambitions. Series A began by providing functions previously limited to Samsung flags at a much more affordable price. Although Samsung has traditionally been focused on the middle class segment, in 2019 it got rid of the entry-level Galaxy J series and merged them into a Galaxy A line.

In the result, the Galaxy A series now costs less than 100 dollars, thanks to such devices as Galaxy A02. Full-fledged basic options, such as the Samsung Galaxy A32, provide all the necessary functions while sparing your budget. Middle class options such as Galaxy A52 and A52 5G, offer exciting new features for those who want the latest screen technology and 5G connectivity.

The results speak for themselves: the Galaxy A series currently account for almost 60% of all Samsung phone sales around the world. So it is obviously that there is a lot of interest in what the Korean brand is doing in this area.

Choise of the perfect phone Galaxy A for your needs can lead to confusion, as there are more than eight models to choose from in different price categories. So if you are going to buy a new phone in 2022, here is what you need to know about the Galaxy A series.

What is new in the Galaxy A series

As of 2022, Samsung makes several key changes to the Galaxy A series. The first is the fact that the Galaxy A middle class models will receive four guaranteed Android OS updates along with five-year security system updates, as well as Samsung flagship phones.

Even if Galaxy A series focused on the budget and middle segments, Samsung is doing a great job, shifting the design of the Galaxy S flagship to the A series.

Latest model series — Galaxy A53 and A73 — have a protruding chamber housing with large rings around the sensors. But, unlike the Galaxy S22 series, the body of the chamber has no metallic trim. Instead, the modules protrude directly from the body, and the refined design «refreshes» appearance.

Another important addition is the waterproof IP67. Samsung offered dust and waterproof IP68 series of Galaxy A in 2017, but did not do so in later models. Since 2021, this function is standard for Galaxy A middle class models.

Starting Galaxy A in 2022 includes phones:

  1. Galaxy A33,
  2. Galaxy A53,
  3. Galaxy A73.

And all three phones offer 5G connection.

Galaxy A53 sets the standard for middle class phones

For 2022, Samsung positiones the Galaxy A53 5G as the perfect middle class choice. The phone received interesting updates compared to its predecessor. Including faster internal hardware, capacitive battery and more software updates.

Samsung has not changed the basic principles too much, so the A52 5G itself is still a great choice. You still get a 120 Hz AMOLED screen, 64 megapixel camera at the back, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, microSD slot, 32 megapixel front-end camera, fast charging 25 W and 5G connection.

For the software, the A53 5G comes with a single 4.1 user interface based on Android 12 «out of box». The fact that the phone will receive four Android OS updates along with five-year security updates gives it a clear advantage in the middle class category. No other phone compares to the Samsung upgrade guarantee.

And the best part is, that with 449 dollars price the Galaxy A53 5G cost no more than his predecessor. So if you are looking for the middle class, Galaxy A53 5G meets all the requirement.

The Galaxy A53 5G include all: Smooth AMOLED screen with 120 Hz frequency, reliable hardware, excellent cameras, large battery capacity of 5000 mAh and the latest version of Android from the box. And the most pleasant thing is that it gets four guaranteed Android OS updates.

Galaxy A72 – a volumetric battery and large screen

As Galaxy A71, A72 is equipped with large screen and massive battery. 6.7 inch AMOLED panel is one of the best you will find in this category, and the screen refresh rate is 90 Hz, making even movement in games smooth.

Hardware has not changed really much. The Snapdragon 720G chipset provides the same performance as the 730G. And you get 6 GB of RAM, and also 128 GB of storage «from the box». There is a microSD slot – unlike the Galaxy S22 series – and you will also find the dust- and water-resistant IP67. The 64 megapixel lens on the back remained unchanged, and Samsung added an 8-megapixel 3-magnification zoom lens.

Thanks to a 5000 mAh battery Galaxy A72 handle with two days between charges on easy. And when you really need to charge it, there is a quick charging capacity of 25 W. A more significant change to the A72 is the software. The phone comes with one 3.1 user interface based on Android 11 from the box, and it will receive monthly security updates and three guaranteed Android version updates.

There is also a version of Galaxy A72 with 5G support, which has 120 Hz screen and runs on Snapdragon 750G.

Galaxy A72 equipped with a large 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a frequency of up to 90 Hz, reliable equipment, excellent cameras, excellent offline working time, dust and waterproof IP67 and three Android updates.

Galaxy A52 – great middle class phone

Galaxy A52 and A52 5G provides the perfect balance between availability and feature set. They provide all the opportunities you look for in the middle class segment, but you don’t have to overpay for it. The standard 4G version of the A52 comes with a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 90 Hz frequency, which is fun to use, and the phone has tiny frames at the front.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 720G and works perfectly with daily use. The base model has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, as well as a microSD card slot. The camera has undergone exciting updates: the phone received a 64-megapixel main lens along with a 12-megapixel wide-angle module. There is also a 4,500 mAh battery, which is enough for a whole day even with intensive use, and the phone has a quick charging capacity of 25 W. And the A52 and A52 5G models have the dust and water resistance of IP67.

Galaxy A52 5G has the same characteristics as the 4G model, but it is equipped with an AMOLED panel with a frequency of 120 Hz, working on a more powerful chipset Snapdragon 750G, which gives it a little more performance. 5G-version of Galaxy A52 is the default option for USA buyers, but Samsung sells the 4G model in most global markets.

Galaxy A52 5G has outstanding equipment, magnificent AMOLED panel with 120 Hz frequency, cameras that make excellent photos, excellent battery life and IP67 waterproof. If you want to switch to a middle-class phone, this is the default option.

Galaxy A42 5G – optimal 5G

Galaxy A42 5G offers the same basic features as the A52 5G, but in several areas it lacks performance. The plus is that the phone costs 100 dollars less than the A52 5G and you get the same 5G bands. The A42 5G is equipped with an AMOLED panel, but the resolution is 720p (1600×720). So, while you still get great colors and viewing angles, resolution is not ideal as for a 6.6 screen.

Device runs on a Snapdragon 750G processor — just like in A72 5G и A52 5G. Therefore, it should last several years without any disruption. The powerful 5000 mAh battery also ensures that the phone will last two days with full charge. But, unlike the A52, you are limited to a 15 W quick charge. As for the image, the phone is equipped with a main lens with 48 MP, a wide angle lens with 8 MP, two auxiliary lenses with 5 MP and a camera with 20 MP in front.

A42 5G has a unique design that allows him to stand out from his fellow A series. And this is a decent way to become the leader of 5G. The screen with the frequency of 60 Hz, of course, can not compare with more expensive models. But if that is okay with you, then the A42 5G – pretty good option.

Galaxy A42 5G is good internal equipment, has 5G connection and excellent time of autonomous operation. The screen is markedly inferior to the A52 or A72, but if it’s not critical for you, the A42 5G is a reliable 5G.

Galaxy A32 – base phone for reasonable money

Galaxy A32 – interesting phone because it offers the best functions from A52 and A72 for less money. You get a similar design, a 64-megapixel camera at the back (48 MP on the 5G model) and a huge battery capacity of 5000 mAh.

At the same time, the phone obviously loses in some areas. The 4G version runs from MediaTek Helio G80, which works more slowly. Model 5G equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 720G does not have this particular problem.

While the A32 5G has a more powerful chipset, it lacks something else. The regular A32 has a 6.5-inch Full HD (2400×1080) AMOLED with a 90 Hz upgrade rate, but the A32 5G has a lower TFT screen with only 720p (1600×720) and a 60 Hz upgrade rate.

Galaxy A13 – low-cost 5G

From Galaxy A13 Samsung makes switching to 5G easier than ever. The entry-level phone is equipped with decent equipment in the form of TFT-screen with a frequency of 90 Hz, Dimensity 700 platform with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, microSD slot, 3.5 mm connector, 50-megapixel camera at the back and a huge battery capacity of 5000 mAh with a charge of 15 W.

But the highlight here is 5G connectivity, as the phone offers connectivity to both sub-6 and mmWave in the US, which makes Galaxy A13 one of the most affordable 5G devices on the market.

Galaxy A13 provides you with decent equipment along with fast 5G connectivity, allowing you to easily switch to the new standard of cellular communication.

Galaxy A12 – the perfect entry-level phone

Galaxy A12 does not have powerful hardware, but it provides basic capabilities in the entry level segment. The phone is equipped with a 6.5-inch screen with 720p resolution and runs on the chipset MediaTek Helio G35. It is missing 5G, but the price is lower.

The phone is equipped with an 18-megapixel main camera with a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 5000 mAh battery. Just like the A32 5G. You get a 15 W fast charge. The smartphone has 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage together with the microSD slot and runs One UI 2.5 based on Android 10 from the box. It is not the most exciting device in the portfolio Galaxy A, but if you are interested in an entry-level device and you want it to be updated regularly with software, the A12 is a great choice.

Galaxy A12 is the basis of the budget segment, and although it does not have 5G, you get a powerful battery, reliable hardware and multifunctional software.

Galaxy A02s – good choice for a limited budget

Galaxy A02s will not set any performance records, but it covers all basic functions. This is the most affordable way to enter the Samsung ecosystem right now. The phone is equipped with a 6.5-inch screen with 720p resolution, and although it is not as bright as the AMOLED panels that Samsung usually uses in their middle and high-end phones, it is quite suitable for daily use.

You also get the Snapdragon 450 chipset, and the base version has 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage with the microSD slot. The chipset is certainly not fast and you will see some slowdowns in everyday use, and limited memory means that the A02s is not perfect for multitasking. You will find a 13-megapixel camera at the back, together with two 2-megapixel lenses that serve as macro and portrait modules, as well as a 5-megapixel camera at the front.

The battery is what the A02s shines with. With a battery capacity of 5000 mAh «under the hood» the phone works more than two days with full charge. There is no NFC, and you don’t even get the ability to connect to Wi-Fi at 5 GHz. Instead, A02s is limited to Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz. The phone also runs on the older One UI 2.5 based on Android 10, but it should soon get an Android 11 update.

In summary, Galaxy A02s – not a particularly interesting phone, but if you are looking for a really cheap device, it will handle with its task.

Galaxy A02s makes buying a new Galaxy phone easier than ever. Hardware is not fast, but you get a lot of software functions in familiar design.

Which phone series A you should buy

In Samsung portfolio Galaxy A there are many interesting models to choose from. According to many, the best option is Galaxy A53 5G. It is equipped with magnificent AMOLED screen with 120 Hz frequency, powerful equipment with 5G connection, microSD slot, outstanding cameras and large battery capacity of 5000 mAh with fast charging 25 W. You also get dust and waterproof IP67, monthly updates and four guaranteed Android version upgrades.

Galaxy A52 5G is also a good choice that allows you to save some money. If you are looking for an even more cheaper option, Galaxy A33 5G should be a great choice.

And even if Galaxy A72 does not offer special changes compared to its predecessor, it is a reliable choice if you need a large screen and at least two days off battery life.

If you are looking for an entry-level device, the Galaxy A12 has everything you need. It does not have the best hardware, but you get all the standard software features in the familiar Samsung user interface.
